Gosh, I am the worst. I finished this a few weeks ago and then kept forgetting to come back and comment ... and then I'd think 'oh, I'm too busy right now.' WELL, I am making the time dammit, because this story deserves a wealth of love for how amazing it is. I truly think this is your best writing ... you write what you know SO WELL and I could feel, smell, see so much of the places. Your love for Charleston was so palpable, it was like I was back there with you at a plantation as I read your beautiful descriptions.
I so very much loved this story and these characters - all of them! - and kept reading snippets whenever I could throughout a very busy weekend. I felt a connection to Sayuri and all that she was going through, because you describe those feelings so well. The set up of spending time with Sam and Dean AND with Sayuri worked so wonderfully to flesh her out for us, especially when compared to how Dean saw her. It really complemented her, and especially the effects of the room on her.
And Dean, oh sweet broken Dean. His longing for his brother and those long-ago days in Charleston. So precious. I just have no real comments except that I absolutely loved how you set up his narrative/perspective of Sam and their relationship. I felt the angst and push-pull Dean had all throughout, and it felt so very true, especially to the boys of late.
