Finally got to read this, and it was as fantastic as I knew it would be. The atmosphere was just right, steeping the story in enough background about the place that it was clear you knew your stuff, without going into so much detail that it took away from the story. I had to go and read the short story first (or listen to it on audiobook, which was read by a man, which was an interesting choice, but anyway) so I'd have some idea what was going on. I liked your version better! Not just because it involved Sam and Dean finding their way to each other, but that it was the love between them that saved Dean. My favorite is when one of them falls prey to the monster, but brotherlove saves them both. Excellent job, and now I want to visit Charleston even more!
