The war was definitely something I didn't want to go into detail on - it happens before the story begins, and nothing would change what happened to Jared. The story had to be all about what he brought home with him. The war wouldn't have added anything, so I'm really glad you appreciated that!

And yes, Texas! You're the first one to mention that, and while there are parts of Texas that are rural and might be less progressive (as there are in every state, it seems), but the cities tend towards a more liberal population, or moderate at the very least. Not 100% gay-friendly, but tolerant at least. I have cousins and family in Houston, Dallas, and Austin, and I've spent enough time in all three :)

So yeah, TOTALLY happy you found some enjoyment in that, too!
