I'm always thrown for a loop when I'm reminded of the fact that there's a large portion of the Supernatural fanbase who 1) doesn't know what slash fiction is (be it Sam/Dean or J2 or any other pairing) or 2) find it revolting.

I was reminded tonight by a comment thread on a photo posted by a Supernatural Facebook group that I follow (that has annoyed me in the past because the maintainers throw so many of their personal opinions and details out there) where a piece of fan-art was featured that could have been slashy. Beyond the fact that they didn't even bother to link to the original artist's page/DA account, there was a discussion where someone brought up the fact that the picture was slightly sexual. One of the mods explained that it could be slashy, whereas the other said: "Slash is only good to some people and it's something we've never promoted or let people post on this page. Personally, I hate it." Subsequent comments predictably contained users' disgust with the idea, especially when it came to Wincest (because, you know, that's obviously the only slash pairing possible on SPN, and ALL SLASH must be condemned because it's probably incest. JEEZ.)

[But of course, they'll promote (and create entire galleries for) the mods' own fic and banners.]

I guess it's good to be reminded that in this corner of fandom (possibly the best corner!), we're not judged by one another so harshly, and our love for SPN and the actors is just as genuine as anyone else's. And because we have something linking us together that goes beyond superficial enjoyment of a television show, we're probably one of the strongest corners, too.

So basically, THANKS FOR BEING AWESOME, Y'ALL. And YAY slashy boysex (and girl sex!) \o/

"I Know What You Did Last Summer" might not be one of my favorite episodes, but Sam Winchester looked SO DAMN FINE in it. So amazing, in fact, that I'm using it to picture what Jared looks like in my Big Bang, injuries and all ;) So I was making some icons and I like how the majority turned out.

Eh, I was bored and rewatching one of my favorite TVD episodes, so I figured I'd lay some random icons on you. It's funny, making TVD icons, because I don't like iconing Elena 'cause she's a boring sob-story, but I love iconing Katherine. Her expressions are WIN. Honestly, I wasn't sure I'd written all that much this year, since I lot of my time was taken up with two or three major stories, but ( the list isn't too shabby. )

My word count grand total, throwing in a little extra for comment fics, ends up around 160,000 words, which I think beats my total from last year, but I can't be sure! Still, impressive in my point of view because I had so many major things going on and, in total, I was away from fandom/writing for three months during the year.

I don't know what all the questions on the year-in-review writing meme were, but I am most proud of Bells Pond because it was the longest and most creative story I'd ever written, my most epic Wincest, plus I think it turned out exactly the way I envisioned it, and Get No Harder. Get No Harder was very different for me, and my writing process was something I'd never experimented with before.

I can't name a most popular story since y'all were so wonderful with comments and feedback on every single thing!

The story that makes me the happiest is also one of the shortest...Come Stay. It's very personal, and every time I read it I'm taken straight back to the Lowcountry where my heart still resides ♥

I also created a personal journal at aluminumwings so I could blather on about my real life and not subject you to all the drama :) I tweeted a lot more than I thought I would, but had a great time getting to know people over there as well! And I became a mod over at spnroundtable, which has been a blast so far.

Goals for 2011?

Start archiving my stories at AO3. I've had the account but things have been so crazy lately that I haven't started yet. Everything will still be posted, first and foremost, here at kelleigh, but I like AO3's aim and ability to download stories in various formats.

WRITE MORE. I dropped the ball on a lot of smaller stories this year, and the majority of my word count total came from only three stories. Hopefully I'll be able to write more when the urge strikes me, since last year from July on, my life was in disarray/transition and I let a lot of little ideas go.

Write in the CSI 'Verse and finally write the J2 version of Top Gun (a potential Big Bang idea). I also want to write a J2 short story set in Neverland (which I have as my j2_everafter prompt, but that deadline is coming WAY too quickly and I don't think that's gonna happen...early January is a horrible time for rough drafts). There's an interesting AU from S2 Sam/Dean that's been in my head for a while, and I'd love to give that a shot.

Write a few sequels and timestamps, too! I've usually shied away from these, since every time I attempt a sequel, they end up LONGER than the original stories, and that's frustrating. But I have a few ideas for shorter pieces in some of my favorite universes, so that's a big goal for me. As always, I strive to be more like dugindeep that way :)

Non-writing related, I want to READ more, COMMENT more, and love the show more. I've always felt like I stood apart watching the show, because I don't write reactions, I don't talk about the show with anyone, and I don't read reactions either. Keeps me a little more optimistic about the show in general since I don't let anything dictate how I watch it, but there's no harm in loving it MORE. Plus, I haven't written Wincest since season six started -- I've sort of lost the ship -- and I want to get back to that love.

This time I wasted a lot of time making icons because there were just so many iconable expressions [not to mention Sam's special scene]. EHEM! Anyway, some are cropped expressions, my favorite kind, and a few have some tricks. I only made it up to the scene where Castiel appears, so I'm halfway through and I plan on going back at some point to finish up! Definite focus on Dean's lips, and Sam's FACE.

I set out wanting one or two icons for myself from the new season, and ended up making thirty icons of just 'Two and a Half Men'. Thus, sharing! Not a lot of effects, mainly cropping and expressions [Sam had some great ones in this ep!] and funny shots of Sam's hair. Plus, one or two TEAM CHARGER icons, 'cause seriously, while I love the Impala to death, the Charger would have been fun to have around a bit longer.

Even now in Season Five, I keep thinking back to some of the characters we saw in Season One. Layla (from Faith) and Kathleen (from The Benders) will always be two of my favorite characters, despite the fact that they only showed up in one episode apiece. I always thought at least Layla's "death" (if we could assume she died as a result of her tumor) would have stayed with Dean. She was the first person to really die in Dean's place, and he wasn't able to sacrifice himself for her though he may have wanted to. Anyway, I always figured she deserved more icons ♥ I had no real goal with hers beyond that I wanted Layla to always be the "light" in the icon, hence why the light is usually focused on her.
