Recs: Star Trek Reboot AUs

Ever since fandom and I had our little falling out in August, I've been doing a lot more reading than writing. I'm slowly but surely getting back into the writing part of it (a new installment of the Richardson Vampire Series, coming soon!), I'm still doing a lot of reading in various fandoms. Recently I've gone back to one of my favorites, the Star Trek Reboot, and I've found a couple of great AU stories, one of which I reread for the third time, I enjoyed it that much.

So while I'm writing vamp!Jensen like crazy, have a trio of AO3 recs:

Papers in the Roadside by kianspo
Kirk/Spock | NC17 | 50,000 words
Non-Starfleet AU. Jim owns a small bar in Chicago, keeps on picking up strays and taking care of everyone no matter how hard it makes his own life. Spock is a journalist writing feature articles for the Chicago Tribune; he depicts the world with uncanny skill, but hides more than one personal drama and is possibly under surveillance from the Vulcan royal family. They meet by accident just before their lives start to spin out of control.
I wouldn't be able to say enough about this story; it's just that good. This was my third go-around reading it, and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time, possibly more so. AUs are the best when the characters lose none of their signature traits and attitudes, and yet still flourish in a new (and drastically different) setting, and this is a perfect example.

Unwritten by ayalesca
McCoy/Kirk | Adult | 40,000 words
Jim Kirk is a young hotshot YA sci-fi writer, author of the hit series "Captain Fine". Leonard McCoy was a celebrated author who vanished from the publishing world years ago. One day Jim finds McCoy's abandoned stories in Christopher Pike's library and becomes determined to find this mysterious writer ...
The summary might make the story sound like a silly!AU, but it's so much more than that, and delves quite deep into the writing process - all the feelings, emotion, and struggle behind it. I think that's something we can all appreciate. And I loved that Bones remained such a mystery throughout, we learned about him as Kirk did, in pieces, not lengthy narrative explanations.

Catching Fire by kel_1970
McCoy/Kirk | NC17 | 137,000 words
21st Century fire department AU. Paramedic Leonard McCoy flees a disastrous break-up in Savannah and ends up working at a fire department in Iowa.
Yep, you read that correctly - 137,000 words. Despite being such a long story, this sucks you in right off the bat with the relationship that forms between Bones and Jim. And the author allots the right amount of time to every stage in the relationship, friendship to flirting to UST and beyond. The read never felt rushed. But behind the relationship, it's a great AU, vividly descriptive (not for the faint of heart if you're squeamish about fire/descriptions of related injuries and trauma) and well-paced. Also a really unique take on Jocelyn (Bones' ex) that I'd never seen done before - surprising but VERY good. This was a great weekend read!

FRIDAY, 17 SEPTEMBER 2010.

WORDS.

There's no reason why these are all short but seriously porny. NO REASON AT ALL. Don't look at me like that.

[livejournal.com profile] standing_fic | under harvest moon
Sam/Dean. 4,300 words. NC17.
supernatural wolf-bite/saliva makes the winchesters go crazy | fuck-or-die, power struggles, impregnation kink
The entire thing was hold-your-breath hot -- the breeding, the filth Sam was talking and everything Dean was thinking. HOLY SHIT. Go read this. Why are you still here? GO. COME BACK LATER.

[livejournal.com profile] andreth47 | Last Call
Sam/Dean. 3,400 words. NC17.
For the [livejournal.com profile] salt_burn_porn prompt of 'closing time.'
This fic contained some scorchingly hot images and I love the idea of Dean needing and taking when he gets fed up with Sam's obliviousness. Awesomely well-written porn.

[livejournal.com profile] saltnburnbaby | I'll Give It To You Slowly, Till You're Just Begging Me
Jared/Jensen. 3,554 words. NC17.
Jared comes home after a two-week business trip to find that Jensen has made very good use of their time apart.
Bossy!Jensen is just as good as Toppy!Jensen in my book. Handcuffing Jared and having his way with him? Yes, I'd like another.

[livejournal.com profile] dragonspell | Not Long At All
Sam/Dean. 5,430 words. NC17.
It wasn’t long ago that Dean had punched his brother in the face for letting him think that Sam had been dead all those months. It was five years ago to the day that they’d hit Rock City and seven years since Sam had shown up on the doorstep. Compared to those ten months that he’d thought that Sam had been dead, it wasn’t very long at all.
Future!fic is such a weakness of mine. This goes beyond Sam and Dean reuniting in Season 6 and brings us to an ending I can believe in. Clean writing and intimate, comfortable sex that manages to be scorching at the same time.

BIG BANG.

Oh, Big Bang. I'm sorry. I am getting through stories soooooooooooooooo slowly, I apologize.

[livejournal.com profile] anamuan | I Know What a Prince and Lover Ought to Be
Jared/Jensen. 33,360 words. NC17.
There are two things that young Prince Jensen knows: a) the Padaleckis are liars and traitors, and b) Jay is his best friend. Unfortunately, while it is quite easy to avoid Padaleckis, it's rather difficult to sneak out into the woods to play with Jay, so it takes a long time for them to collect the magic pebbles Jay needs so he can wish for a puppy.
I still haven't read many Big Bangs, but this one stood out for me. The story is sweet and serious at the same time, and while the story suffers just slightly from an over-abundance of information that doesn't quite add to the world building (there were a few times the details bogged down the pace), the world was well put together. A very happy ending with well-written UST. Plus, I'm a total sucker for mistaken identities, and pairing that with royalty was a pretty sure thing :)

FRIDAY, 16 JULY 2010.

WORDS.

[livejournal.com profile] savorvrymoment | Working the Show
Jared/Jensen. 3,900 words. NC17.
He takes a breath and watches the man climb up onto the pole, his oiled body cast in a bright glare from the overhead lighting.
I write happy!stripper!fic, so it's no surprise that I like the same thing while I'm reading. This one's optimistic and adorable and fun for a short, light read.

[livejournal.com profile] philomel | Lit
Sam/Dean. UNDERAGE [Sam]. 5,300 words. NC17.
One toke over the line.
Shot-gunning fic, this was seriously and gorgeously hot. Great writing, some superbly crafted notions about Sam and Dean's relationship, I read this more than once just to squeeze every last drop of enjoyment out of it.

[livejournal.com profile] ivynights | Year of the Living Dead
Sam/Dean. 7,300 words. R.
Coda to 5x22. Really, it doesn’t matter that he’s living in suburbia; Sam’s down in the pit so Dean’s down in the pit. It’s just a whole new kind of torture.
I should have recced this story a while ago as it was written soon after the season finale. Every time I think back to the way Season 5 ended, I think about this story and it makes me believe everything's going to be alright -- at least, it will be if it turns out anything like this story. Details from the finale all found their place in this and even though the viewpoints switch back and forth from Sam to Dean, it blends seamlessly to me like one stream of consciousness. The ending just killed me. This is my canon, end of discussion. Season 6 does not exist.

[livejournal.com profile] linda3m | Red, Red Wine
Sam/Dean. 3,500 words. NC17.
Give a mouse a cookie; he'll want a glass of milk. Give Sammy a kiss and he'll take your whole damn mouth, and Dean had no problem with that.
This is in turn funny and sexy. Not the most in-character fic, but it's set in the early seasons (probably 1 or 2) so the easy-going attitude between Sam and Dean makes a little more sense. A nice, quick porny read and since I'm on a red wine kick, this fic was the cherry on top.

BIG BANG.

I'll be honest and say that I haven't read many Big Bangs at all! Life is kind of crazy at the moment and I'm reading at the rate of maybe one or two stories per week, added to the fact that I'm on a bit of a Pinto kick at the moment. But here are two fics that stuck out for me and well-deserve your time! There will be more recs, but they likely won't come until after my move and the BB season has wrapped up.

[livejournal.com profile] janie_tangerine | Play It All Night Long
Dean/Castiel. AU. 43,000 words. NC17.
Dean hosts a late night radio show, Castiel is a regular listener of his who starts calling one day and ends up calling more often than not and Dean finds himself liking it. This, until one day Castiel calls for not exactly petty reasons (just before Dean's brother Sam is visiting with his girlfriend for spring break) and things get very, very crowded at his place. He also doesn't know it's just the beginning of it. Also features Gabriel, Chuck, Andy, the Roadhouse crew and a huge amount of music quoted. Especially Bob Dylan.
Dean/Castiel, I KNOW. But the AU premise drew me in and this was a music AU I could really sink my teeth into. The first part is a little slow going wading through a lot of music references and DJ-speak, but it was worth it to get to the relationship that builds between the DJ and his caller. Despite the non-supernatural setting, the author works a remarkable amount of canon moments (relationship and character-wise) into the story. Ellen, Jo, Ash and the Roadhouse come into play. Sam and Jess come to visit NYC and Sam/Dean have some great brotherly moments. Plus, Gabriel is great for some comedy and he's very much the Trickster in human form. Chuck works at the radio station and writes gay erotica for 'zines in his spare time, and that alone is hilarious. I went into this fic not knowing what to expect and came out so pleased having read it.

[livejournal.com profile] dugindeep | In a Faraway Land, You'll Find Yourself
Jared/Jensen. AU. 28,600 words. R.
In his day-to-day life, Jensen is never put first or regarded as anyone with purpose. He works for his dad, lives in his brother’s shadow, can’t keep his boyfriend a priority, and has mostly given up on himself. One magical cup of coffee transports him to the land of Cassidonia, a fantasy land that he can’t traverse on his own. The tale says the Fair Child will slay the monster keeping watch at the unruly queen’s castle, and all of Cassidonia says Jensen’s the one to do it. In this world, he has to decide if he’ll move on without much effort to change his life, or live up to his destiny and save Cassidonia and return it to the rightful rule of the princess-in-waiting.
Like a great fantasy movie, I never wanted this story to end. You sit through all the credits and think, "wait, there's going to be more, right?" I finished this and immediately wanted to dive back into Cassidonia and see more of it -- figure out where all the characters would go next, especially Danneel! Jared and Jensen's relationship comes about quickly, but you never doubt its intensity or validity after the things they've gone through together in such a short amount of time. It's creative and wonderfully fantastical, reminded me of the Xanth novels by Piers Anthony (only I'm sure Cassidonia wasn't shaped like Florida).

I finally got around to reading some big J2 AUs that had been sitting in my To Read list for quite some time! If nothing else, my two month vacation this summer is gonna be good for reading lots of fic at the beach.

ART AND WORDS.

Art: [livejournal.com profile] dauntdraws | He Said, She Said
Words: [livejournal.com profile] eviltwin | It's Okay, Dean
Dean/girl!Sam. One hot Montana evening, Dean just can't keep his mouth shut. / Sammy told him it's okay. And she'll do her best to prove she's right. 4,000 words. PG for art. NC17 for story.
Daunt's art is, as always, amazing. The comic style of this is great, with stills you just want to linger over before clicking to the next one! A perfect Dean, and the girl!Sam we all picture. Then, eviltwin took it one step further, and her story picks up where the art left off. I don't always read girl!Sam or girl!Dean, but these are so well done!

WORDS.

[livejournal.com profile] ancastar | Out of the Ashes
Jensen/Jared. Imagine Jared as Cinderella and Jensen as Texas royalty. Now imagine there's an evil stepmother and step siblings intent on keeping Jared down, and the two lovebirds apart. 53,000 words. R.
A modern retelling of Cinderella, but this one really pulls at your heartstrings. The first chapters are hard to get through, honestly, because what happens to Jared is terrible, and just when you think it can't get worse, unfortunately it does. And to have his childhood contrasted with Jensen's, who wants for nothing beyond people who don't care about his money, makes it even more gut wrenching. But Jensen's a saint, and Jared pulls through because of him, and the payoff is great.

[livejournal.com profile] arabia764 | What You See On The Outside Isn’t always What You’ll Find Within
Jensen/Jared. It’s a world like this one, only not quite, and Jensen has a proposition to put to a guy he’s only just met. One who just happens to be called Jared. 80,000+ words. NC17.
Another long one I finally got to read. Slave!fic is not something I typically go for because of the potential angst-factor, but this one erases those fears with the first chapter. The reasons behind Jensen buying Jared are a little strange, but for the world the author created, things start to make sense. Even though Jared was the slave, his backstory isn't nearly as tragic as Jensen's, and that's where the story really took off. Not perfectly written - who am I to cast the first stone? - but the sex is wonderful and so hot, and the story will keep you reading!

[livejournal.com profile] joans23 | When you kiss me
Jensen/Jared. A sorta fairytale, complete with curses and happily ever afters, J2 style. 5,300 words. NC17.
A sweet tale with the perfect amount of angst and romance (oh, and did I mention hot sex?) to leave your heart very happy!

SALT, BURN, PORN.

I haven't nearly gotten through all of the SBP entries this round! But here are three that shouldn't be missed.

[livejournal.com profile] dugindeep | Shine on the Occasion
Jensen/Danneel/Jared. 2,900 words. NC17.
So hot, and recced because not only was it some well-written porn, but I don't usually like adding a girl into the slash mix and yet there I was, totally wanting more after I read it! J2 shippers don't have anything to be disappointed about, here.

[livejournal.com profile] annabeth_fics | Offer me the world, and how can I resist?
Sam/Dean. 2,200 words. NC17.
Sweaty, rough, and yet loving, first-time fic. Makes you realize that for Sam and Dean, there's no getting away from each other.

[livejournal.com profile] maraceles | Don't Gamble (What You Can't Afford to Lose)
Sam/Dean (underage). 12,000 words. NC17.
First, because writing 12,000 words in 24 hours is a freakin' accomplishment! Second, because I love pre-series fic that doesn't shy away from canon - Sam still goes to college, but you're left with hope for their futures. A sweet, snarky Dean who's so in love with Sam - my favorite!

Disclaimer still applies. I base these on nothing more than my personal taste and enjoyment.

ARGH! WORK! WHY MUST YOU SCREW WITH MY ABILITY TO READ A LOT OF FIC? Another short list, but I have so much fic bookmarked for this weekend (when I don't want to work on my Big Bang anymore, that is).

The disclaimer for these recs still applies. I base these on nothing more than my own personal taste and enjoyment. Some you might agree with and some you may not, but that's the point of personal taste - everyone's is different! Because if you can't rec what you like, what's the fun?

FRIDAY, 12 MARCH 2010.

WORDS.

[livejournal.com profile] secretlytodream | I wrote this novel just for you
Jensen/Jared. Funny, they could be a perfect couple if one of them wasn’t a psycho serial killer and the other his biggest fan. 19,000 words. NC17.
This is far and away one of the best stories I've read in the last few months. Very different from what I usually seek out, as it's very much a horror/murder story, but it was fantastic. It was dark and horrifying and at the same time, written so gorgeously it made my stomach hurt a little bit, and I couldn't stop reading. Like every line was essential and perfect. And the ending, eeeeek! Definitely give this one a chance.

[livejournal.com profile] gatorgrrrl | Down the Rabbit Hole
Jensen/Jared. Jensen and Jared are competitive alpine skiers. And while Jared's at the top of the sport, Jensen's simply looking for one last big race. 4,400 words. PG13.
My favorite story to come out of the Olympic fic craze :) Understated, emotional, and lovely!

[livejournal.com profile] agt_spooky | Shadows In His Eyes
Jensen/Jared. For K-9 Officer Jared Padalecki, transferring from the San Antonio police department to the elite L.A.P.D. was a dream come true. He nearly forgets he’s in Hollywood until he responds to a 911 call that brings him to the home of actor Jensen Ackles. It appeared that Jensen had it all – a career that was on fire and a loving, long-term relationship with his partner, Mark. But then Jared uncovers the truth that Jensen had been trying to hide, and the illusion comes crashing down. 45,000 words. NC17.
Really? A story where one's in law enforcement, and the other's an actor? Sign me up!

[livejournal.com profile] redsbball61 | Life With You
Jensen/Jared. It's not perfect, but it's theirs. 1,600 words. PG.
This little scene from an AU will really pull at your heartstrings in the best way. So much love!

And now, POSTING FRIDAY FIC! As soon as I finish editing :)

It's really quite sad, the amount of fic I have not been able to read these past few weeks. And every time I feel like settling in for a nice, long evening read, I remind myself of how many fics I need to be working on, and how worthless I've been with writing lately. Anyway, here are a few recs of stories I have been able to rec over the last few weeks, hopefully one or two you haven't had the chance to get to. ♥ Enjoy!

FRIDAY, 19 FEBRUARY 2010.

NONSENSE.

Legend of the Seeker: Cracky Recaps
Legend of the Seeker is one of those shows I love, but don't feel the need to be in the fandom for. But, I can assure you that it's a FUN fandom. The highlight of which are [livejournal.com profile] deej's Cracky Recaps, which combine screencaps, media, GIFs, polls, and a very special brand of crack to post these episode reviews. It also helps that she, along with a good part of fandom, don't squabble over the different ships. It's all ♥ for Cara/Kahlan, Cara/Richard/Kahlan, Cara/Richard, Cara/Everyone, Richard/Kahlan, and on and on. If you watch this show, even casually, they're worth taking a look at. If you don't watch, scan through anyway because this show has some serious eye-candy. And it should be noted that Bridget Regan, one of the stars, linked to the recaps from her Twitter, and made it clear that the cast totally approves of the crack and laughs everytime.

WORDS.

[livejournal.com profile] joans23 | Tokyo Nights
Jared/Jensen. Jared knows that flying all over the world to promote yourself is part of the business, but it doesn't mean he has to like it. One night in Tokyo, a hooker named Jensen and a favor from Chad later, he's ready to give it all up. 5,800 words. NC17.
Joan *swears* that she cannot write porn. But ladies and, um, ladies, SHE WRITES PORN. Fantastically well. Hooker!fic can be really hit or miss for me, since I have a huge aversion to one-sided affection or people being used for sex. Do Not Want. This story is scorching hot, and leaves you with a heart-warming payoff. Not to be missed.

[livejournal.com profile] tinalia | The Radio Wedding 'Verse
Jared/Jensen. Jensen's family attempt to find him a mystery bride as part of a radio contest. When Jared is the one that meets him at the altar, the two embark on a marriage that neither of them expected. Really quite long :). PG-NC17 by chapter.
I've kept up with it since tinalia first posted it, and it was a good, shmoopy, romantic, and friendshippy story. I know its not the most realistic idea for a story, but it takes you through friendship leading to more, and how J2 discover all kinds of intimacy, and learn that loving your best friend is easy, but really loving someone is a whole new game. Lots of happiness, a fair amount of angst, and a story to curl up with on a cold afternoon.

[livejournal.com profile] cirramin | I'm an artist, not a boar
Jared/Jensen. Jared has a massive college-epic crush on sandwich-maker Jensen, and no nerve to ask him out. Then there are condom issues. 1,600 words. R.
A cute little college AU with a "can't keep his thoughts to himself" Jared, and a clever Jensen - written for the TFLN meme.

[livejournal.com profile] paxlux | Crack the spine, let the words fall out
Dean/Sam. They read to the ticking of the clock. 9,100 words. PG13.
This is the kind of story that you read and smile, and later you think about it again and get the same warm feelings that you did when you finished it. The story is smart, Dean and Sam are smart in ways that are believably canon, and the story reads effortlessly.

[livejournal.com profile] elizah_jane | On the Shores of the Great Lake
Dean/Castiel. The problem with the war between Heaven and Hell is that it’s never actually over. The problem with being one of God’s chosen warriors is that you can always get called back into the fray. 11,000 words. NC17.
Even if you don't read Dean/Castiel, I encourage you to read this anyway for the story behind it all. Taking place in 3014, Castiel is still around and there's a divide between The Faithful and The Hunters. Lucifer isn't really dead, and there are two brothers, DJ and Caleb, who learn the story of Dean and Sam Winchester as relayed by their overly-religious teachers. It's just a GOOD story, with a lot of love between Dean and Sam, no matter where or when they are, and a couple of really sweet details about Sam's life that Dean never knew. In 3014, Castiel and some new hunters, have another chance to take on Lucifer. As I told the author: "Okay, I'm not normally a Dean/Castiel girl, but I can never resist a good story, and that's what this was! A great read, intriguing and letting us fill in the blanks you left for us."

[livejournal.com profile] kyliselle | How High The Moon
James Kirk/Spock [Star Trek - Abrams Universe]. After the destruction of Vulcan, Spock shielded his mind to protect it from his broken bond with T'Pring. Little did he know another bond had already formed in its place. Under 30,000 words. NC17.
Okay, so I *swore* I wasn't going to get into the new-Trek fandom, and I'm doing pretty well with that so far. However, every once in a while a story will catch my attention. This one, I've already read twice. Honestly, I'm not all that attracted to ANY version of Spock, but Chris Pine is FINE LIKE WHOA, and throw in some good angst and romance? Voila. The Jim-bonds-with-Spock trope is done over and over in this fandom, but I think this one did it well, though it's probably WAY more romantic and melodramatic to quite fit canon. STILL GOOD, and a fun read, and I promise you don't have to know much beyond a viewing of the latest Star Trek movie. Again, Chris Pine is HOT.

I meant to post this yesterday, but I didn't get home from job #2 until around six, and then went out for oysters (it's Oyster Festival time around here). Not as much for this week, as my fic-reading and journal-browsing have been severely hindered by work. *le sigh*

I LOVE YOU meme.

COMMUNITIES.

[livejournal.com profile] wordy_icons | A community for eloquential icons.
Sometimes you need words to get across what you're feeling. I've always loved this community, made some icons in the past, and the great thing is that not only do you get a lot of varied themes in the text/brush icons, but most of the artists link to their stock icons in the same posts, as well.

WORDS.

[livejournal.com profile] taelynhawker | Soaked to the Bone (Sink like a Stone)
Dean/Sam. Dean hates California. They weren't even here on a case. They had been in southern Oregon when Sam found what he thought might be a lead in California. And Dean had tried to get out of it, but Sam had been adamant. And so they'd come here only for it to be a false trail. 10,400 words. NC17.
So I'm a sucker for bottom!Sam, and for kidnapping stories (for which I totally blame 'The Promise'), so this story was a no-brainer. Also features a well-done Bobby, and some scorching, awesome sex.

[livejournal.com profile] not_refined | Ocala Nights
Jared/Jensen. Jared/Sandy. Jensen buys a house and, over a few summer vacations, Jared’s visits there change their relationship beyond his wildest dreams. 9,200 words. PG13.
How about an oldie-but-goodie? Rediscovered this fic while I was redoing all my delicious tags, written two years ago, that was just so good and happy-inducing I had to make sure everyone's read it. The relationship that develops between Jared and Jensen is still something that those of us with OTP ♥'s still long to see today. And Sandy is great in this too. Sort of makes me miss her. But the author sums this up in three words - domestic, summery, and fairytale.

[livejournal.com profile] scurvyknavery | Not Unlike A Woman
Kahlan/Cara [Legend of the Seeker]. The Seeker and his companions seem happy to be chaste. The Mord'Sith are not. 5,000 words. NC17.
Alright, so I don't read femmeslash that often, but I love Legend of the Seeker and I love these two characters. For those needing visual aids, here they are [Kahlan is the brunette, Cara the blonde]. If you don't know much about it, Kahlan is a Confessor, pure of heart and body, and Cara is a Mord'Sith - a leather wearing, emotionally terse, former dominatrix, basically :) But they're on the same side now, and sort of flirt when Richard's not looking! Plus, this pairing's tough (anything with Kahlan is) since she can't touch anyone while having sex without putting them under a permanent, irreversible spell. The author does Cara's snark perfectly!

As always, recs are things I have enjoyed, and can range anywhere from interest-piquing kinks to total guilty pleasures!

Since I'm no longer doing episode reactions, I figured I could spend Thursday nights/Fridays gathering some of my favorite links for the week. Art, stories, meta, or awesome posts that just make me laugh or think.

As far as my tastes go, so you can get an idea - I write what I like. I love cleverly written porn, beautiful concepts, and fics that think outside the box. But I also adore romance and meant-to-be style fics, anything that makes my heart sing light and happy. No stranger to cheesy fics and concepts in my own writing, those make appearances too because they can be AWESOME. \o/

FANDOM.

[livejournal.com profile] 2_perseph | On Fandom and Bohemia.
I've been in various fandoms with Perseph since the Troy and Black Hawk Down glory days (Hootsquee posse, anyone?). And over and over, she impressed me with just how clearly she was able to see fandom, not just the bad but the good as well. With all the "Remember that fandom can be great!" posts going around, I thought I'd add her recent one to the mix. It came at a time earlier this month when I was ready to set down my pen and leave SPN fandom permanently.

ART.

[livejournal.com profile] dauntdraws | Pony!Winchesters.
These drawings are my HAPPY HAPPY place right now. This one has been my desktop since she posted it, and every time I turn on my computer it makes me smile and *happysigh* all over again. Though this one I think is my favorite, with Dean getting all ridiculous in his horse shape! "Oooh a leash! Kinky!" Plus, if you haven't seen the rest of her art, it's amazing! Definitely check it out! I also won [livejournal.com profile] dauntdraws in the help_haiti auction, so I am BEYOND THRILLED to get a piece of art from her (as soon as I deposit my paycheck and donate, that is!).

WORDS.

[livejournal.com profile] rocknrollrodeo1 | The Subtle Build of Perfection
Jared/Jensen. Jared's a video store guy. Jensen's a new customer. Dating happens. 19,000 words. NC17.
As I told the author, the word that came to mind when I finished this, was FUN. Yes, there was some angst, but I love when misunderstandings cause angst and are then so wonderfully made up for. The interactions between Jared and Jensen, even on the phone, are so realistic if a little on the sappy side :). Plus, it's one of the few fics where I love what's done with Chad. The man's a genius here, really. :) A great read if you're looking for something light but fulfilling, with fun snark and dialogue.

Sam/Dean. Sam likes to tease Dean about the looks and offers that he gets sometimes on account of his pretty face, and it's no secret that he has a bit of an obedience kink. But Dean's not just gonna let his smug little brother think that he can own him. Under 5,000 words. NC17.
Absolutely 100% ridiculously, smoking, fantastically hot. Need I say more? Okay. I can never decide which I like better, toppy!Dean or toppy!Sam...well, this fic gives you BOTH and makes it work. I mean, I figured that out after the third read where I wasn't so sdfkjsdvunrg;jkn by the porn.

Jensen/Jared. "You know what I love about virgins? How much you don't know. How much you want it, how nervous you are to get it, how you don't know what to do once it's given to you." 4,000 words. NC17.
Hopefully my comment will suffice: That was so utterly pornographic, but it was PERFECT and AWESOME at the same time. Basically, LOVED IT! You nailed virgin!Jared (heh) with the awkwardness and the defensiveness, but I loved how great Jensen was with him, and how connected they were. Another awesomely porny story that leaves your heart happy at the same time.

Dean/Sam. Dean’s secret changes everything, but not a great deal. 8,000 words. R.
I know it's been recommended before, but I think it's worth mentioning since it was one of my personal favorites! Beautifully done wing!fic, and the Dean/Sam relationship was amazing, real, and the story never shied away from the canon events we know. The things that were done to Dean in Hell...oh my, I actually teared up. Well worth a read or two! If you missed it the first time, definitely check it out.

Jensen/Jared. New place, new job, new friends. Why not spend the night flirting with the cute bartender? 3,400 words. NC17.
All right, so I *did* ask for a lot of the elements in this fic - Aldis, bartender!Jensen and professor!Jared, but matalinolukaret's the one who put those three pieces together into something totally awesome, sexy as hell, and surprising! Another fun read you won't regret!

Sam/Dean. Sam's been hiding his feelings from his brother, but he's not the only one keeping secrets. 8,000 words. R. Underage!Sam.
This was an amazing story! Using few words, the author is able to draw out such emotion, make your heart flutter nervously, and you can't wait to read the next sentence so you can figure out just what's going on. I felt like I held my breath the entire time, only able to exhale when it was finished! I won't give anything away here, but do yourself a favor and read!

And as far as episode reactions go, I didn't get a whole lot of satisfaction writing them, and to be honest I don't get a lot reading them either. I like my own thoughts on the show, and I did skim through a few ep. reactions this morning, but as I've always done, I like keeping The Show separate from The Fandom in my head. Not that I don't like the reactions of others, it's just the way I roll. If you're new round these parts, I didn't want you expecting to see a reaction post from me. :)
