In this crazy experience of writing for fandom, I've taken away one very important lesson. Write It Down.

I don't care if you're half-asleep, convinced that if you repeat that perfect sentence two dozen times you'll remember it in the morning, or too lazy to reach over and grab a sheet of paper or your phone...WRITE IT DOWN.

If you're in the shower, and the most stunning turn of phrase hits you...get a towel and WRITE IT DOWN. Or, if you're in the middle of shampooing, repeat it over and over again out loud until you're done.

If you're driving, get to a red light and text it to yourself.

Because if you don't, you are never ever in a million turns of the earth going to remember and it will haunt you. FOREVER.

That might be a little dramatic, but OMFG you will be so pissed when you remember that you had a brilliant thought, but can't actually remember what it was.

/EPIC SIGH

I wish my boss looked like Dean Smith. I wish ANYONE I worked with looked like Dean Smith. ♥

My hiatus has been totally unintentional, I swear! Besides an upswing in my work activity -- and longer hours to go with it -- I've been consumed by my latest story which today passed 20,000 words. Is there a Big Bang I can randomly participate in? ;) I had no idea it would turn out this long! But, the end is in sight, I'm serious! And none too soon, I can't wait to get back to the CSI 'Verse and my, much lighter and much more humorous, [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_xmas story. The snark it will have! And it's going to be Smith/Wesson, so GET EXCITED NOW.

I'm also thinking about signing up for [livejournal.com profile] j2_everafter, but it's not a must. I came up with a story idea I'm really excited about, but if the prompt gets claimed before I can get it, I'll just take it as a sign that I need to be working on other things. But, it's not a prompt that screams J2, since there's no classic romance in the original plot, but I intend to go off of the sub/original material of the story more than the Disney version. Much more fun that way. Anyone else signing up? What's your prompt, tell me!

But yes, rumors of my fandom-death have been greatly exaggerated :) I've written a couple of comment!fics I'll repost (nice and edited) later.

Days and dates are not coming easily to me right now! Obviously, the last few months since I moved to Arizona have been their own brand of crazy, but the next few weeks are going to be special.

First off, I hope everyone going to WinCon and ChiCon has a blast! So many awesome people in one place, I'm totally jealous, but I have awesome plans of my own that weekend that cannot be changed :-) I'm expecting STORIES AND PICTURES AND FUN TIMES from y'all, okay?

Let's see...NEWS! Other than the fact that Randy Moss was traded from the Patriots, because what. the. fuck?

I joined the mod staff at [livejournal.com profile] spnroundtable and I'm so excited! Currently I'm doing the monthly roundtable themes, so if there's ever something you wanted to see presented, let me know. It's an awesome group to be a part of, though, and my fandom love has gone through the roof lately!

There are totally projects in the works! I have a random, out-of-the-blue J2 AU I've been working on for a few weeks, and it involves FARMERS. Yeah, I know. But it's currently over 11,000 words long and hopefully I'll get it wrapped up before 20K! A little angstier than my usual fare, and the characters are totally new for me, especially Jensen, but it's been awesome to write. Have a snippet!
Jensen stops with moist dirt all over his arms. He feels every speck of it on his fingers, under his nails where it's gotten into his gloves.

"My dad told me what you were like when you got here," Jared says. "That you were desperate."

Everything's decaying right in front of him—life reduced to its simplest compounds under the sun, at the mercy of the elements. Those same forces haven't spared Jensen. He's been stripped down to will and instinct and need.

"I've known guys like you." Jared's voice drops lower, out of place in the sun-drenched afternoon. "You get hooked on something, mess your life up for a little while. And you come out here looking for penance or looking to forget about your problems. But soon enough they're gonna follow you and it's only a matter of time until you fuck up again—"

So, with that story planned for October, that leaves November for the CSI 'VERSE!. I know, you probably thought I'd forgotten all about it, but that's so far from the truth! I think about it, a lot ;-) In fact, there's a whole binder full of "thoughts", you might say. The plot and scope is huge, and there are some big surprises! Have another snippet...
Jared lets a breath go. "There's no talking in charades."

Kissing Jared is an addiction Jensen would plead to in court, the healthiest dependence in his bullet-riddled lifestyle. Something about the way Jared moves his tongue, matching Jensen's every move. And the sounds...throaty purrs, vibrations across Jensen's palate; long, satisfied groans from belly-deep; breathy accents and soft tones. They create a new language for Jensen to study.

Jared's long arms find their place around Jensen's lower back, squeezing once as they come out of the kiss, and he smiles.

"I'm not getting dirty from this."

"Shut up," Jensen urges, and slides down to his knees.

In addition to those two major projects, I still have a veteran!Jared/exec!Jensen story at 9,000 words, plus some of my [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_xmas fic already written and thought out. I got lucky with my assignment because it's a story (perhaps, a sequel...?) that I've wanted to get to for a long time, and I think y'all might be pleasantly surprised! No clues other than that, but I welcome guesses ;-) And then there's a Sam/Dean season 2-ish fic that I've been DYING to write, even though I have no idea how it turns out. The idea involves supernatural!amnesia, Crowley, black stockings, and Sam-on-a-mission!

So, lots in the works, as you can see! Back to work...

[livejournal.com profile] twofourteen said she'd give me $5 if I used my own word of the day -- cresyl-violet -- in the same sentence as farmer's tan.

ANNA CAN SUCK IT but she can keep her five dollars.

"Jared eyes inevitably travel up to the marks on Jensen's bare chest. Vivid bruises like cresyl-violet stains poured across his skin, violent blemishes more unflattering than Jensen's farmer's tan, though the contusions contrast as much with pale skin as they do with bronzed. Faced with evidence of such brutality -- and at the hand of someone Jared knows -- he looks ready to commit his own acts of violence."
