Big Bang and other assorted nonsense!

You'll have to forgive me, I'm trying to get out of a funk right now. Suffice it to say it's been a bad day/week/month so far and I hate complaining but this is my trying to fix that. I love my job, I really do, but sometimes the people there drag me down that it starts affecting other areas of my life, especially personal and online. This week, my boss and the head of the lab are at a conference leaving me with only the people that I have friction with, and it's not conducive to having a good week. Fortunately, that ends tomorrow and though I have to work all weekend, hopefully I can leave some of the stress behind and move on.

With a month left before I post my Big Bang, I'm trying to get back into the swing of it. It feels like it's been forever since I finished writing it, almost longer than I spent writing it, and going back now it's just such a departure from what I normally write that it's freaking ME out. Heck, do all of you even know what I'm writing? I know I made a teaser post of sorts a while back, but if not, here's my summary!

Golden Filaments In Fair Design
Samuel, a young orphaned boy, lucks into a life he could never have imagined, one full of wonder, magic, and love. Fate sends him to a couple with a traveling Vaudevillian show, and growing up amid the strange and beautiful performers is everything he’d dreamed. Happy as his childhood was, as an adult Sam becomes ever lonelier and develops two distinct personalities. There is the shy, helpful Sam who avoids social company. But there is also a charismatic and seductive artiste, first inspired to perform by a green eyed stranger he meets one night by chance. When the stranger, Dean, becomes a very real force in his life, he learns the other man's deep secret; Dean too is living a double life - one Sam would have never expected and one that leads him down a road of magic and discovery. The two men grow close, their connection obvious and passionate from the start. But when souls hang in the balance and destiny is never far away, the two men end up having to fight for the life they deserve.

Crazy, no? I have to say, there's character death in the story, but I look at it this way...how many times have Sam and Dean died on Supernatural, huh? There you go. I don't want to give away more because if you do end up reading it, I don't want to spoil the story! I'm not sure what combination of drugs [or what I'd inhaled that day in the lab] gave me the idea, but it's sheer ridiculousness. Some of you already know this!

BUT. The point of this post was to cheer me up from my recent drama and total run of back luck [I think I killed a leprechaun or something], so here's a list of things that make me happy at the moment...
  • [livejournal.com profile] jumpuphigh offered to make a Big Bang soundtrack for me since I'm musically-inept and had no plans to offer one. Her track list is currently 9 hours long, but she'll cut it down ;)
  • I'm working out again which has done wonders to combat stress even though it feels like my quads want to secede from the rest of my body.
  • Snow Patrol's Make This Go On Forever which was nearly the title song of my Big Bang.
  • Candy orange slices. Sort of an antithesis to the working out thing, but so darn good!
  • Recent jewelry creations which I'll hopefully post soon.
  • I'm going to Atlanta the week before my Big Bang's posted, and I *really* need the time away. Yeah, it's sort of a business trip, but it's a FUN business trip - staying downtown, getting wined and dined by the showrooms, hunting down awesome jewelry deals and finding new products for the store.
  • [livejournal.com profile] pornfriday!

And some fic recs, none of them new, but all of them worth reading!
  • Le Bel Endormi dans la Tour [or The Sleeping Beauty in the Tower] by [livejournal.com profile] tabaqui: Jared/Jensen - PG. A take on Sleeping Beauty that's creatively written [seriously, I had to read some sentences more than once so I could get all the nuances and descriptive effort] and heartwarming. Quiet, but loving, and such a fairy tale minus the fairies. It makes you want to know so much more about the world she created.
  • Binding The Edges by [livejournal.com profile] mgbutterfly: One of my favorite Sam/Dean stories of all time, and it's only about 4,000 words. It's just such a great, progressive story about how the brothers get together as told through every time they have to bind each others' wounds.
  • The Three Faces of Jared by [livejournal.com profile] nocturniquette1: 17 chapters. 70,000 words of a great, intriguing story! It's the tale of Jay Welling, trapped in an unhappy and abusive marriage, until different sides of his personality, formed and buried after a tragic event in his past, start making themselves known. Each identity is so different, and there's a match for each one, but who is Jay really, and who will he end up with? There are tough moments, but there are happy ones too.
  • I know everyone has been reccing Big Bangs, and I figure you all have your must-reads and your list of to-reads, but three amazing ones I've read belong to [livejournal.com profile] arlad, [livejournal.com profile] finn21, and [livejournal.com profile] cormallen. All three are SO different even though they're all Jared/Jensen, and all are worth multiple reads! I can't wait 'til real life allows me to read more than one or two fics a week.

Your Big Bang sounds awesome! I can't wait to read it.

I'm sorry to hear life has been kicking you in the balls lately. *hugs*

(On the bright side, I have more Smith&Wesson to post? Probably tomorrow for Porn Friday! &hearts)

Yay, thanks!

I think real life kicks all of us in the ass from time to time and while complaining doesn't do a whole lot of good, sometimes you just have to. It'll get better, I'm sure ;)

And I'm SO glad you're posting on Porn Friday, 'cause I feel like such a slacker! Plus, Smith & Wesson?! Now I'm REALLY excited!

Hee! I'm hoping my beta will manage to read through it by then.

If not I'll probably just post it anyway.

And I thought that might get you excited!

Under 7 hours now. :) I am wondering how long it takes to read your BB, since I'm not the average reader. Perhaps a song per page (allowing 63 songs) or per every 2 pages (30 songs would be good too). :D

Candy orange slices.
So weird as I never eat these but nearly picked up a big tub of them in the store the other night cause they looked mmm-mmm good.

Hey, seven hours! It's getting better ;) I read fics sort of slowly [but I read books lightening fast...weird], so I'm probably a bad judge of reading times, honestly. Thirty songs is a good number to me - 15 per volume?

Oh man, orange slices are THE BEST. Just the sugar on top and the chewyness and the SHAPE. I love the shape, biting into them, and I always eat them the same way ;)

Oh, MAN, I'm so sorry work has been so tense this week, sweetie... it sucks when you HAVE to be around people you have friction with without a buffer, but woo for that situation ending soon.

EEP! I think I remembered your BigBang was SPN AU, but I hadn't looked at the detailed teaser post or summary, and OMG I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!! IT LOOKS AWESOME!!! (also, SPN wincest AU is one of my favorite things, and so rare! to get it written by YOU is such a gift)

GUUH, I looove 'Make This Go On Forever'! And I always connect to Sam/Dean in my head, for some reason.

And thank you sooo much for the rec, sweetie! I really can't tell you how happy I am that you liked my BigBang :)

I guess work wouldn't be work if there wasn't tension from time to time, right? It's just exacerbated this week by absences and having to spend a lot more time with people whose personalities don't mesh well with mine. Ah, c'est la vie, I suppose!

AU is definitely the best way to describe my story. I tried not to make Dean and Sam sooooo OOC that they're unrecognizable, and y'all will have to tell me how well I did with that once it's posted [I think I'm doing a better job with El Deano!]...SPN AU's are so much fun though - and you're right, not written NEARLY enough!

And the rec was my pleasure! Even rarer than SPN AU's are J2 non-AU's that are set in the future and that just feel so *real* and so *possible* ♥

I'm so sorry life's been funky lately!! Who's ass can I come and kick? My dad has some steel-tipped shoes and I'm not afraid to use them!

I can't believe it's less than a month to our posting dates! I'm just as excited about your story today as I was when you first told me about it. I just know it's gonna be so freaking awesome and I can't wait!! (Any news on your artist yet?)

I've been doubting and stressing and all that shit, but luckily The Fucking Thing (as I've started calling it) is done and dusted, so I can forget about it and pretend it doesn't exist until a day before posting. OMG, I stuck my finger in my mouth and started chewing on the nail just thinking about it now! ARGHHH!

I'm gonna go find something warm to eat now and think some happy thoughts.

*BIG HUGSSSSSS*

I don't know if there's any *one* specific person ;) but I'll get right on that list for you!

A month *still* seems like a long time, but when you think about it, July is NEXT WEEK (!!!) and I know I'm gone for a week, so I think the time's going to go by REALLY quickly. Eeeek! I have to get my ass in gear already! Doubt & stress seems to go hand in hand with this whole Big Bang thing...like it's inevitable to start disliking your story, almost like creative mood swings. First you love it, then you hate it, and all over again. So, if yours is polished and ready, DON'T THINK ABOUT IT! Think about me freaking out and realizing you're not in the same boat ;)

And it goes without saying that I can't wait for yours ♥

I caught the South Africa vs. Brazil soccer game yesterday, and from the way people were bundled up in the stands, it looked *cooooold*. So yeah, get something warm and snuggle up with some happy fic.
