Look what I did, Ma! And a story pimp :)

I don't even know how this started! [livejournal.com profile] dugindeep and I were talking about her (now newly posted) Law and Order-esque story when she was writing it, and the subject of art came up. It probably began as "will you make me a banner?" and turned into 65+ graphics in one general theme for a 65K+ story. I had a blast, not just because it was one of my best friends, but because I rarely get to do art and I was so excited about the story!

So, no way I can include all the graphics in my first ~official~ art post (eeeep!), but here are a few, and I'm just proud. And, even though I had all of the locations, dates, and times for the scenes, I haven't gotten to READ the story yet even though I know it's amazing because I had snippets (I wanted to be surprised), and now I'm planning to get my butt right over there and jump in -- YOU SHOULD DO BECAUSE [livejournal.com profile] dugindeep IS AWESOME. SHE KNOWS COPS, YO.

IN THIS WINDY CITY
MASTER POST
Authored by [livejournal.com profile] dugindeep | 65,000 words | Rated NC-17 | Jared/Jensen

Chicago Homicide Detectives run themselves all over the city to tie together
a handful of bodies, a potential scandal with a local Alderman,
an unnamed dirty cop, and a possibly even dirtier partner.

In Chicago, it's not just the wind that'll get you ...

For all of the banners and title images, I used a mix of my Chicago photography and images of the actual Chicago locations where the action's taking place. In some cases, [livejournal.com profile] dugindeep had to go and take the pictures for me! I wanted to carry the red (Jensen) and blue (Jared) themes throughout the banners, plus it looked great against the stark and grainy grays of the locations.

THE SOUNDTRACK

I love how the background images on the soundtrack turned out. Plus, both pictures use my own photographs of the Chicago skyline! Capturing images in Jared and Jensen's silhouettes was a theme I tried to keep throughout.

END CREDITS

They just had to be smiling at the end even though dugindeep threatened an unhappy ending! ;)

SECTION HEADERS
Check the story to see the 60+ of these I made for every scene change :) Since the story was semi-inspired by Law and Order, it seemed totally fitting to have these to tell the reader (and show!) where the action was taking place.

Check out the rest, and READ THE STORY, FOR GOODNESS SAKE here at the MASTER POST and leave some love!

OMG I'M GONNA CRY. SERIOUSLY. WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME? TEARS. IN. EYES.

I'm still absolutely awed by the work you did - quantity and quality. It's gorgeous and makes me all giddy. I felt like such an ass because I had so little input or concrit for it, but it's because you just nailed it all on the first try every time!

I love you so much, not just for this post, or for the art, but also because you so selflessly helped (well and because you're you).

Thank you &hearts thank you &hearts thank you &hearts thank you &hearts thank you &hearts thank you &hearts thank you &hearts thank you &hearts thank you &hearts thank you

The art was absolutely gorgeous, hun!

I told Amy in the fic post, but every time I saw your art, I had to mentally do the Law and Order noise. Which made the experience even BETTER. ;)

I loved your choice of colors and the pictures you chose. It added mire context to the scenes. IT WAS PRETTY. :DDDDD

I know it sounds kinda weird, but I think this is what a perfect art post for a fanfic looks like.

I love how you managed to use the same kind of blending (which I love btw.) and always kept the same colors for Jared and Jensen on every banner. Consistency FTW!
The Crime Scene Unit one and the one for Jared's apartment are my favorites :D
But they all fit so perfectly to the story.

You didn't make a wallpaper though *pouts*

I've never done an art post, so I'm wicked happy to hear how well it worked for you! Keeping the colors for Jensen and Jared, and only using two colors, was important to me to keep the theme going. Consistency, too, because having disjointed banners, especially so many of them, can jar or take focus away, and I wanted people to enjoy the story so much!

Maybe there's a wallpaper in the future ;) THANK YOU!

this is seriously gorgeous work, in so many ways. the cropping, textures, and levels alone are so gritty and characteristic. it creates a specific mood that aligns itself with this "cop" theme of things that are hidden, or sullied, or don't want to be found. on top of that is the shrewd and measured usage of color, and this BEAUTIFUL CONCEPT of tying in the silhouettes with the city images. you must have worked so hard -- it shows, and has paid off. this art makes a great statement on its own, and really shoved amy's story into another category. awesome, awesome job.

Once I started with the red and blue, and the silhouettes, I knew I had to keep going. I'd only read a little of Amy's story by then, but I knew the tone and the grays, the grainy photographs with sharp details, seemed perfect. I think the silhouettes were my favorite part, fitting them into certain images, notably absent from others. Thank you so, so much for the feedback on everything, I'm just giddy from the comments I've received on my first major story-art project. It'll keep a girl going ;)

I have yet to read the story (can't wait!!!!) but I just want to stop by to say that the Banner was the first thing that caught my eye.
Then I scrolled down and saw the dividers :gasps:

I love the black/white vs red/blue thing you did. Ad the background of teh city. Just. Yeah.

I'm going to go read the fic now - I've got the pdf with all the Art so will pop by with some more, ahem, relevant comments later. For now? I just want to let you know how impressive your Art is ;)!
